Job Description

Join our expanding team of remote educational professionals serving Nevada's virtual education community. We're looking for an experienced Educational Sign Language Interpreter passionate about providing high-quality communication access to deaf and hard of hearing students through innovative online platforms.

Interpreting Position Overview

This remote role offers 35 hours per week supporting approximately 20 students across kindergarten through high school programs. You'll work within a collaborative virtual environment while maintaining independence in professional interpreting delivery and communication access facilitation.

Professional Interpreting Functions

  • Execute real-time American Sign Language interpretation for virtual academic instruction and educational activities
  • Enable seamless communication exchange between deaf/hard of hearing students and educational team members
  • Provide specialized interpreting support for virtual meetings, conferences, and educational planning sessions
  • Collaborate closely with deaf education specialists, related service providers, and general education faculty
  • Adapt professional interpreting techniques for effective online delivery and optimal visual accessibility
  • Facilitate student participation in virtual school events, social activities, and peer learning opportunities
  • Demonstrate consistent adherence to interpreting professional codes and ethical practice standards

Educational Access Focus

Your interpreting expertise will support students accessing diverse academic programming including core curriculum instruction, specialized services, and enrichment activities. You'll serve learners with varying communication modalities and hearing loss levels requiring personalized educational access approaches.

Required Qualifications

  • Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 minimum indicating competent interpreting ability
  • Minimum two years of direct experience providing educational interpreting services in academic environments
  • Exceptional American Sign Language proficiency with strong English language skills
  • Proven capability to deliver effective interpreting services through virtual platforms and remote delivery methods
  • Comprehensive knowledge of deaf culture, professional interpreting ethics, and educational accessibility principles
  • Excellent organizational abilities and attention to professional documentation requirements
  • Reliable technology setup including high-quality video capabilities and stable internet infrastructure

Advanced Preferred Qualifications

  • EIPA score of 4.0 or higher demonstrating superior interpreting competency
  • Written EIPA certification reflecting comprehensive assessment and theoretical knowledge
  • RID/NIC national certification with successful written examination achievement
  • Extensive experience with online learning management systems and virtual educational environments
  • Specialized professional development in educational interpreting methodologies and practices

Technology Requirements

Successful candidates will demonstrate comprehensive experience with various video conferencing platforms, online educational tools, and virtual communication systems specifically designed for visual accessibility needs.
