We are looking for an experienced Network Engineer to join our team in Chesapeake, Virginia, on a Contract to permanent basis. This role involves designing and implementing high-performance networks that will support critical operations for a local government. The ideal candidate will have expertise in creating scalable, secure, and provider-grade network solutions.

Responsibilities:
• Design and implement provider-grade networks with scalability and redundancy across core, distribution, and edge layers.
• Configure and maintain Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) routing, including route reflection, policy controls, and failover mechanisms.
• Integrate robust security measures such as MD5 authentication, prefix filtering, firewalls, and DDoS mitigation strategies.
• Manage protocols like IS-IS, VPNs, QoS, and both IPv4 and IPv6 configurations.
• Perform hands-on installation and troubleshooting of routers, switches, and other network hardware.
• Collaborate with internal departments and external providers to ensure seamless network operations.
• Utilize monitoring tools such as dashboards and NetFlow to track performance and identify issues.
• Create and maintain detailed network documentation, including diagrams and operational runbooks.
• Work with vendor technologies such as Cisco routers, Palo Alto firewalls, and Infoblox platforms to optimize network performance.
• Provide escalation support and resolve critical incidents with a problem-solving mindset.• At least 5 years of experience in designing and managing provider-grade networks.
• Proficiency in configuring Cisco routers and switches.
• Hands-on experience with Palo Alto and Cisco ASA firewalls.
• Advanced knowledge of Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) and related operations.
• Familiarity with municipal broadband or public sector networks is a plus.
• Strong communication skills for explaining technical designs to diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues and implement effective solutions.
• Experience with network monitoring tools and documentation processes.
