Key Accountabilities * Utilize the electronic customer database and meter reading systems. * Load hand-held meter reading equipment daily. * Accurately read customer meters on different routes and transmit the reads for billing daily. * Record any stopped meters, broken meter, dials, boxes, etc. immediately. * Conduct minor meter repair and change-outs, as well as meter box repair as needed. * Download and upload daily meter-reading routes. * Required to take after-hours call as needed by the District after D1 certification requirement met. * Work with distribution employees to repair, replace, or install water services, mains hydrants valves, etc. * Performs other similar work and projects as needed by the district and any other work as necessary or to satisfactorily complete the job to which has been assigned. _ Knowledge/Skills _ * Knowledge: o Familiarity with any water-industry knowledge preferred. o Water Distribution Certification Grade I, preferred. o Must be able to obtain a D1 certification within 12 months of hire date. * Skills: o Position utilizes small hand tools and other tools necessary to complete job tasks. o Drive a company vehicle. *Requires a valid CA Class C Driver's license with minimal moving violations. o *Ability to carry out oral and written instructions. o Requires normal physical and mechanical ability. o Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. o Understand basic computer functions, and able to adapt to meter reading technologies, and other computer applications. _ Experience/Education _ * This position requires a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent. _ Other _ * This position reports to the Operations Supervisor. _ Competencies _ Champions safety Customer obsessed Cultivates innovation Nimble learning Drives Results Collaborates * Join American Water...We Keep Life Flowing ™ * American Water is firmly committed to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and prohibits employment discrimination for employees and applicants based on his or her age, race, color, pregnancy, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, marital status, citizenship, or because they are an individual with a disability, protected veteran or other status protected by federal, state, and local laws.
