Are you looking for a meaningful internship opportunity that helps children and their families? If you answered yes, then JRI is looking for you!
The Children's Advocacy Center of Bristol County, a program of JRI, coordinates the investigative response for all child sexual abuse, physical abuse, CSEC and witness to violence reports, in the County. Children come to our center for a Forensic Interview where they share the details of their abuse, while investigative team observes. Children and families can experience a wide variety of emotions on the day of their visit so we never use a one-size fits all approach. Our staff meets with parents/caregivers, identifying service and treatment needs, and making referrals for services, as needed. Staff remain connected and involved with the family for as long as they need the support. Additionally, the CAC has HARP (the Healing & Resiliency Program), which provides trauma, informed clinical services to children and families.
Internship could follow a few different paths: The HARP program accepts one Master's level intern (2nd year placements), per school year, to work in a clinical capacity with children and families affected by trauma. Interns provide individual, family and group treatment. Interns will gain experience in completing comprehensive assessments, developing clinical formulations, writing treatment plans, and facilitating clinical measures to children and parents.
In addition we also accept Bachelor's level or Masters level students for internships that have the opportunity to experience a non-clinical placement at our CAC. This experience covers a variety of experiences including working directly with parents/caregivers on the day of their child's Forensic Interview. Interns have the opportunity to assess child and family needs, provide support, and make necessary referrals for community services. In this role, they work closely with the multidisciplinary team responsible for investigating the report of abuse.
Additionally, all interns have the opportunity to engage in activities, headed by our Education and Outreach Prevention Coordinator. These activities typically take place in the community and include attending tabling events, prevention fairs, trainings and other outreach events.

You will have access to opportunities for ongoing training, professional development and opportunities for CEUs. Supervision from licensed and experienced staff to provide necessary hours and clinical growth towards degree completion.
Requirements: Minimum working towards a Master's degree or above in the mental health field (LCSW, LICSW, LMHC or LMFT). Bachelor's degree interns may be considered for non-clinical placement, if actively enrolled in BA program working towards degree. Clinical interest in working with children/adolescents is required and familiarity with trauma informed models of treatment preferred. Good written and oral communication skills are necessary. Background and driving record checks will be performed.
