Job Title: Remote Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH)

Location: Michigan (Remote)

Employment Type: Full-Time 1099 Contract

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and certified Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) to provide remote instructional and support services to K12 students in Michigan . The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with school teams, students, and families to ensure accessible education and equitable learning opportunities in a virtual environment.

This position is entirely remote and requires experience in delivering virtual instruction using best practices tailored for deaf and hard-of-hearing learners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized and group instruction to deaf and hard-of-hearing students in a virtual setting, aligned with IEP goals.

  • Develop and implement effective lesson plans that accommodate diverse communication needs, including ASL, spoken English, and other modalities.

  • Support students language development, academic achievement, and social-emotional growth.

  • Collaborate with general and special education staff, interpreters, audiologists, and families.

  • Participate in IEP meetings, evaluations, and progress reporting.

  • Provide consultation and support to school personnel regarding accommodations, hearing technology, and deaf education strategies.

  • Monitor and document student progress in accordance with district and state requirements.

  • Maintain confidentiality and compliance with FERPA and IDEA regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Deaf/Hard of Hearing.

  • Bachelor's or Masters degree in Deaf Education or a related field.

  • Experience teaching deaf/hard-of-hearing students, preferably in a K12 setting.

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), spoken English, or Total Communication, based on student needs.

  • Strong written, verbal, and virtual communication skills.

  • Comfortable using online learning platforms (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, etc.).

  • Access to reliable high-speed internet and remote teaching setup.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience delivering virtual instruction.

  • Familiarity with Michigan Department of Education policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of hearing assistive technology (e.g., FM systems, cochlear implants, hearing aids).

  • Ability to support students across a range of communication preferences and educational settings (inclusion, resource, or direct instruction).
