Chief Financial Officer (CFO) - Montgomery County, MD

Mission-Driven Nonprofit Organization | Hybrid (Minimum 3 Days Onsite)

We are seeking a visionary Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join the senior leadership team of a vibrant, growth-oriented organization. Key Responsibilities

Strategic Financial Leadership

• Partner with executive leadership and the board to develop long-term financial strategies and projections.
• Guide organizational strategy with sound financial modeling and scenario planning.
• Lead efforts to improve margins, optimize revenue streams, and support operational efficiency.

Team Building & Departmental Leadership

• Build, mentor, and lead a finance team that operates at a high level of excellence and independence.
• Implement best practices in nonprofit accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, audit preparation, and compliance.

Systems & Reporting

• Leverage financial technology (e.g., Sage Intacct, Salesforce, Bill.com) to streamline operations.
• Develop dashboards and tools to deliver timely, accurate data to program and department leads.
• Ensure leaders have the financial insights they need to make sound decisions.

Cross-Organizational Collaboration

• Work closely with development leaders to support fundraising strategy, grants, and donor reporting.
• Partner with program teams to align financial planning with mission-driven goals.
• Serve as a thought partner in aligning business models with organizational impact.

Board & Stakeholder Engagement

• Serve as a trusted advisor to an engaged Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
• Prepare and present timely and transparent financial updates.
• Collaborate with lay leaders on investment and endowment oversight.

Qualifications

• CPA with 10+ years of progressive finance experience (nonprofit sector experience preferred).
• Experience with Sage Intacct, Salesforce, and Bill.com strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skillsmust be comfortable interfacing across departments and with volunteer leaders.
• Experience navigating complex financials (e.g., multiple business units, grants, and programs).
• Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach and a passion for mission-based work.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid position with a minimum of three days per week onsite . While some remote flexibility is offered, senior leaders are expected to maintain a strong presence in the office.
